When We Talk About Famous Scottish Salmon Beats Then Everyone Associated With Scottish Salmon Fishing Has Certainly Heard Of Georgina Ballantine And Glendelvine Water On The River Tay.
Late afternoon on the 7th of October 1922 having already landed 3 fine Autumn Tay salmon weighing a total of 63lbs just above the Bargie Stone at the neck of the Boat Pool the 'beast' was hooked.
The rest of that story is known by many and the fish was eventually landed in the darkness away down at the tail of the Sparrowmuir Pool where there used to be an island. The giant Autumn cock salmon weighed a massive 64lbs and is still the British record rod caught Atlantic salmon.
These days one of my longest standing salmon fishing buddies Steve McIrvine heads up syndicate operations on Glendelvine and as Head Ghilie. Steve is one of the most talented River Tay boatmen I've ever had the pleasure to fish with and over the last 40 years I watched his knowledge of Glendelvine go from expert to professor status.
Being a member of the Glendelvine Water syndicate is something exceptionally special and beautiful salmon pools like the famous Boat Pool & the Ministers Pool are an absolute pleasure to swing a fly through. If you let your mind wander while fishing down through the deep trough in the riverbed directly above the Bargie Stone you'll convince yourself you can hear Georgina's Malloch's of Perth brass reel singing in amongst the noise of the fast stream that's present there.
