This family fishing party came to the Tay for an introduction to Scottish salmon fishing during July. The young lady with the white cap landed her first ever fly caught salmon that day much to the amazement of her onlooking family members. There are so many different angles and skill sets involved in teaching salmon fishing that need to be adapted to suit the guest's entry level depending on whether he or she is a beginner or an established salmon fisher in need of fine tuning.

This was my first fish of the 2024 River Tay salmon fishing season and a fine fish too as you can clearly see here in this photograph. Look at its beautiful oceanic colours as they highlight against the dark browns of the river environment. I caught this fine at the Rock Pool on Kinnaird Water which has always been a good Spring salmon fishing area.

When I study all of the important salmon fishing skills that are vital for ensuring the best chance of success and especially on a salmon fishing tour on the bigger salmon rivers of Scotland I'd state without doubt that 'riverbank movement' if mastered correctly (which equates to colossal daily water coverage) is number 1.

Here's the perfect end result of a carefully presented River Tay salmon fly in the middle area of the Tay Valley near Dunkeld during May. Look at the physical perfection of this salmon and it's no wonder these Spring run fish are the most highly regarded of all the Scottish salmon runs. The fish is in the landing net beside my salmon fly rod & reel.

The Summer months have always represented a great time of the year to be out on the Scottish salmon rivers with your fly rod searching for one of these special creatures. June, July & August were always attractive to me due to the often lower rod pressure experienced on many Scottish beats during these prime salmon fly fishing months.
