The Beautiful East Coast River Teith Is A Serious Fly Fishing Proposition For Those Who Are Looking For Something Extra Special. The Famous Lower Lanrick Beat Is Located Within Easy Commuting Distance From The Lovely Stirlingshire Towns Of Doune And Callander.

The Lower Lanrick Beat is one of the most beautiful salmon fly fishing beats on the entire River Teith. This renowned East Coast salmon river fishes well throughout the Spring months and after the spates and temperature dips have commenced through the Autumn months. The Lower Lanrick beat has produced salmon to 42 lbs in recent years which is an indicator of the heavyweight runs of salmon that enter this brilliant River Forth tributary.

The advantage of having expert Head Ghillie Grant Roxburgh overviewing salmon fishing operations adds a different dimension of sheer professionalism and River Teith salmon fishing knowledge to the entire Lower Lanrick beat salmon fishing experience. Grant's unmatched knowledge of the Lanrick salmon pools and how to best approach them has been gained over 18 seasons of daily Lanrick riverbank duties.

This excellent River Teith salmon beat has a beautiful combination of both right & left bank fishing over its 1.2 mile length where salmon can be caught in any water conditions right the way through to this amazing fly fishing venue's seasonal closing date of 31st October.

Perfect streams like the 'Castle Flats', 'Garden Pool', 'Gravel Bank' & the 'Laundry' pools are the true epitome of what a high quality River Teith salmon fly fishing venue is all about. The downstream boundary of this perfect salmon beat is below the Dam Pool where the 42 lbs Spring salmon was landed as previously mentioned.

Let as a 4 rod salmon beat this superb River Teith venue provides true salmon fishing tranquility with very good individual rod space. Additionally, this famous salmon beat is amazingly 'natural' and all species of 'flora & fauna' can be found along the Lower Lanrick beat's spectacular riverbanks.

Jock's Appraisal

Having fished the River Forth and all of its tributaries since boyhood I know only too well how productive this river system can be.

What continues to amaze me is the colossal size of salmon that often run this East Coast river which seem way 'out of place' in the medium sized pool formations of the easily coverable River Teith.

Lower Lanrick's classic salmon pools fish well during all water heights and if catching fish on the fly is your goal then this is an amazing beat to visit. I've personally witnessed salmon of 19lbs & 20lbs being caught in rapid succession on the fly as early as February such is the Teith's salmon fishing qualities.

Taking a day to fish the Lower Lanrick beat with Head Ghillie Grant Roxburgh fine tuning your approach to each perfect salmon pool is 100% guaranteed to open up a completely new & exciting dimension to your salmon fly fishing routine & enjoyment.

Catch Statistics

Please bear in mind that 'catch statistics' in recent years have become an industry driver but they do not take into account the actual 'rod pressure' applied in achieving these figures.

There's much more to Scottish salmon fishing than the inevitable 'end result' of enough fishers being present or being in the right place at the right time.

The riverbank beauty & ambiance, the hypnotic flow of the stream, the hospitality of the ghillie and just enjoying 'the escape' from normal stressful work duties has always been the primary attraction of Scottish salmon fishing where a salmon was always regarded as a bonus.

Beat Directions

Travelling From The North from Perth.

From the M9 at Dunblane take the A820 to Doune.

Drive through Doune then turn left onto the A84.

Cross over the old bridge and take the next turning on the right (B8032). Follow this road for 2 ½ miles, passing Victorian lodge gates on the right.  Take the next right hand turn. This right hand turn is just around a very sharp right hand bend and there is a cottage right beside this entrance. Follow this estate road down to the river and turn left when meeting the river. The Lower Lanrick beat fishing hut is a few hundred yards further on.

Travelling From The South from Glasgow.

Take the A80/M9 to Stirling and take the A84 signposted Callander/Doune.

As you're entering Doune (before reaching the River Teith's old Bridge) turn left onto the B3023. Follow this road for 2 ½ miles, passing Victorian lodge gates on the right. This right hand turn is just around a very sharp right hand bend and there is a cottage right beside this entrance. Follow this estate road down to the river and turn left when meeting the river.
