Islamouth Is A World Renowned River Tay Salmon Beat That Represents One Of Very Finest And Most In Demand Scottish Salmon Fishing Venues.

This prolific Scottish venue is one that cruises to average over 500 rod caught salmon per season such is its fish holding qualities. Other than having perfect fly fishing pools the unique positioning of this Tay beat immediately downstream from the River Isla confluence gives salmon an easy resting point en-route to the Isla and its tributaries.

Take this amazing beat and its perfect River Tay location and add into the mix two of the River Tay's finest professional boatmen & absolute 'expert' ghillies in Billy Campbell & Ally Scott and you'll then understand exactly why Islamouth does so exceptionally well from year to year.

The big runs of River Isla destined salmon arrive in March and continue right through to the end of July. This beat is the first real stopping point for these fish which are usually always straight off the tide at Perth and keen to take a fly. In addition to these known runs are all the salmon that head to the River Tummel & Loch Tay and beyond and like any beat where the water pressures is suitable more will congregate en-route up stream.

Medium to low water conditions suits Islamouth best and during these periods the beat is more or less 100% fly only which breaks from the traditional use of the spinner which to my mind is correct and another great sign of professional management at its absolute best. The beat is double bank along its entire length and being restricted to 5 rods there is plenty of water for rods to fish no matter how low the river becomes.

During the Autumn months excellent sport is also to be found on this amazing Tay fly fishing venue as big numbers of Autumn salmon take up residence in the lower reaches of the Tay. This is a different class of Tay salmon from the earlier running Isla fish and it is during these Autumn months a serious heavyweight encounter can be anticipated.

The Islamouth salmon fishing hut is one of the nicest on the entire Tay and is fully appointed with all the trimmings worthy of a position on such a famous and professionally run Scottish salmon beat.

Jock's Appraisal

The River Tay has many fantastic salmon beats which all possess their own kind of magic. This prolific fishing venue is just God's way of showing that there's always another dimension when looking at anything natural.

At some point in your life if you're a dedicated Scottish salmon fisher casting your fly over the 'Long Head' 'Castle' or 'Cutty' pools are boxes well worth ticking.

From March through to July you couldn't be better positioned on the entire Tay system than to be searching these glorious Islamouth fly fishing pools for fresh run salmon that are always present during that time.

Most of the Islamouth annual weeks are taken up by very fortunate & returning anglers however on rare ocassions access to this prolific Tay fishery may become available in the very early Spring months.

I'm sure fishing season 2017 will be yet another big success on this quality Tay beat with both new & returning Islamouth Beat salmon fishers.

Please bear in mind that 'catch statistics' in recent years have become an industry driver but they do not take into account the actual 'rod pressure' applied in achieving these figures.

There's much more to Scottish salmon fishing than the inevitable 'end result' of enough fishers being present or being in the right place at the right time.

The riverbank beauty & ambiance, the hypnotic flow of the stream, the hospitality of the ghillie and just enjoying 'the escape' from normal stressful work duties has always been the primary attraction of Scottish salmon fishing where a salmon was always regarded as a bonus.
