When It Comes To The Fabulous River Dee You Would Do Very Well To Position Yourself Better Than On The Famous Invery & Tilquhillie Beat Which Is Located Close To The Popular Aberdeenshire Town Of Banchory.

Naturally there are more salmon caught during the Dee's Spring months on this wonderful salmon beat due to the much higher volume of fishers however there's not a day of the Dee fishing season that lapses where salmon are not present and can be caught on this fantastic & well manicured venue.

The added benefit of having the expert combination of two highly professional Rive Dee ghillies in Jim Turnbull & Karl Revel heading up operations creates a rare blend of total Dee knowledge with astute salmon fishing advice & 'overwatch'.

This excellent middle Dee salmon fishing beat has a beautiful combination of both right & left bank salmon pools over its mile & a half length where salmon can be caught from the Dee's opening day on the 1st of February right through to the closing day on the 30th September.

Amazing fly fishing streams like the 'Killing Hatch', 'Pantoch' & the 'Floating Bank' pools are the true epitomy of what world renowned River Dee salmon fly fishing is all about.

Let as a 6 rod beat during the higher water levels of Spring and 4 rods thereafter this River Dee venue provides true salmon fishing tranquility & excellent individual rod space.

Many salmon and sea trout are drawn to the beautiful pools on the Invery & Tilquhillie beat due to the upstream River Feugh confluence. These fish wait in the deeper River Dee before running the Feugh when appropriate water levels arrive.

Jock's Appraisal

Although previously pitched as a predominant Spring beat when the time comes to change down to the smaller flies during May & beyond this is as good a salmon beat as any on the entire River Dee for building up big numbers of resident salmon.

Whether it's Spring, Summer or Autumn salmon are always present in the amazing and plentiful Invery & Tilquillie beat's salmon fly fishing pools.

A small & lightly dressed 'Silver Stoat' salmon fly fished on a floating line with a fast sink tip through these warmer low water periods will show you exactly what I mean as this subtle 'on their noses' approach has to 'trigger' a reaction from the many salmon this beat often holds.

When you're fly fishing this perfect River Dee salmon beat and you've met either of the 2 professional salmon ghilies who do such a great job with the fishing guests and the riverbank maintenance you'll also then understand the true calibre of the River Dee salmon fishing that's on offer here.

I've no doubt many of this River Dee beat's new & regular salmon fishers will be loyal to the high quality salmon pools on offers and that I note that the 2017 is already shaping up to be yet another great season.

Please bear in mind that 'catch statistics' in recent years have become an industry driver but they do not take into account the actual 'rod pressure' applied in achieving these figures.

There's much more to Scottish salmon fishing than the inevitable 'end result' of enough fishers being present or being in the right place at the right time.

The riverbank beauty & ambiance, the hypnotic flow of the stream, the hospitality of the ghillie and just enjoying 'the escape' from normal stressful work duties has always been the primary attraction of Scottish salmon fishing where a salmon was always regarded as a bonus.

Beat Directions

From Aberdeen take the B979 South Deeside Road from Crathes Bridge towards Banchory. Pass Tilquhillie Farm on your left hand side and the entrance to the Invery & Tilquhillie salmon beat is 500 metres thereafter on your right hand side (just past the mature beech trees). Follow this gravel track down to the fishing hut & car park.
