Directly Positioned Downstream Of The World Famous Glendelvine Beat The Delvine and Burnbane Salmon Beat Of The Middle Tay Is Most Definitely An Excellent Salmon Fishing Proposition For All Visiting Tay Anglers.

This River Tay salmon beat has a long history of big catches of salmon and especially from the Summer months onwards when good stocks of salmon take up residence in the beautiful salmon holding water this beat is fortunate to benefit from. Spring salmon can be caught here too and the water pressure in this beat's pools during the higher water levels of Spring are perfect for salmon to hold up in.

For many years this middle Tay salmon beat was run by a private syndicate which was headed up by the legendary & late Duncan Glass who was one of the Tay's true go-getters for catching salmon and assisting the Tay's management with effective fund raising campaigns which were always well received.

On many ocassions I've heard Duncan reminiscing of fantastic salmon fishing days on Delvine & Burnbane where he was the sitting tenant right up to recent years. Only during the last 2 years has the beat been opened up for all visiting salmon anglers to enjoy fishing its lovely salmon pools on this famous mid section of the River Tay.

These days another 2 highly knowledeable & experienced professional River Tay ghillies are in charge of the fishing operations. Simon Furniss & Jim Ferrie have thrived at catching salmon on the Tay for decades and have an astute understanding of exactly where salmon can be caught on this perfect middle Tay salmon beat.

The natural tranquility & ambiance you'll experience on Delvine & Burnbane is second to none on the Tay and a brand new well appointed fishing hut has been built for the comfort of visiting guests along with many other salmon beat enhancements throughout the beat's entire length.

Jock's Appraisal

Delvine & Burnbane is another absolute ‘must fish’ salmon beat of the River Tay that has vast salmon fishing pools where you'll enjoy the abundance of 'quality' fishing water.

The 'Sparrowmuir & Corner' pools are fantastic natural stoppers of salmon on this beat and often it's not whether you're going to catch a salmon from these beautiful pools but how quickly!

Look at the high caliber of famous River Tay salmon beats that are located immediately upstream with big Tay names like Murthly & Glendelvine and you'll get the mssage I'm trying to convey about the potential of this lovely salmon fishing venue.

If you like agood choice of undisturbed natural River Tay salmon pools with a good chance of a fish in any of them then this Tay venue will become a 'life long' friend.

Catch Statistics

Please bear in mind that 'catch statistics' in recent years have become an industry driver but they do not take into account the actual 'rod pressure' applied in achieving these figures.

There's much more to Scottish salmon fishing than the inevitable 'end result' of enough fishers being present or being in the right place at the right time.

The riverbank beauty & ambiance, the hypnotic flow of the stream, the hospitality of the ghillie and just enjoying 'the escape' from normal stressful work duties has always been the primary attraction of Scottish salmon fishing where a salmon was always regarded as a bonus.

Beat Directions

Directions From The A9 South (Perth) From the Inveralmond roundabout in Perth follow the A9 Inverness motorway north for 6.4 miles and take the Bankfoot exit on your left hand side. In Bankfoot take the 1st right turn (signposted Perth which will take you under the A9 motorway) and within a few seconds you’ll see a right hand turn signposted Murthly. Take this right hand turn for Murthly until you come to a T Junction and turn left there. Follow the road for a few minutes and you will pass through village of Murthy and over the River Tay's Caputh Bridge. As you enter the village of Caputh turn right at the phone booth, bus shelter & letterbox. Follow this track until you see the new fishing hut on your right hand side.
