On The World Renowned River Dee You Would Do Very Well To Position Yourself Better Than On The Prolific Banchory Beat Which Is Located Within Walking Distance From The Beautiful Town Of Banchory.

If you understand salmon and their holding habits you'll understand why this perfect River Dee fly fishing beats does so well. The spawning tributory River Feugh enters the Dee on the Banchory Beat and thousands of salmon and sea trout hold up in this area of the Dee while waiting for suitable water levels to make the Feugh navigable before ascending to their spawning grounds.

When you have salmon congregating on any beat like this you tend to see other fish that are destined for the upper reaches of the main stem of the Dee also stopping before moving on. The perfect fly pools and water pressures on the Banchory Beat allow this natural salmon congregation to occur.

Add into this natural blend of salmon holding components a renowned professional Scottish salmon fishing legend in Head Ghillie Brian Brogan to advise all fishing guests of the fine tuning required for their fishing approach to each of the 11 named salmon pools and you have indeed a recipe for salmon fishing success.

This River Dee salmon fishing venue performs well from the cold water of early February right the way through to the end of River Dee salmon fishing season at the end of September. The Banchory Beat has a beautiful modern heated fishing hut with WC & cooking facilities to cap a wonderful River Dee salmon fishing experience for all fishers who are fortunate to swim a fly on this beautiful salmon beat.

Jock's Appraisal

Main tributary spawning river confluences always give a huge fishing advantage on any salmon river and that's exactly what you have here on the prolific Banchory Beat.

Take the above fact with the addition of Head Ghillie Brian Brogan's astute salmon fishing knowledge paired with the famous River Dee's reputation as one of Scotland's leading salmon fly fishing destinations and you've all you need to know to make an informed salmon fishing beat venue decision.

There is no doubt in my mind that this lovely salmon beat will continue to demonstrate each season to hundreds of River Dee salmon fishers exactly how perfect a salmon fishing location this venue is.

When the Banchory Beat is on form there's few beats on the entire River Dee that can compete with its magnificent daily catches.

Catch Statistics

Please bear in mind that annual 'catch records' in recent decades have become an industry driver however they do not take into account the actual 'rod pressure' applied in achieving these figures nor the quality of the angling effort throughout the salmon fishing season.

There's much more to Scottish salmon fishing than the inevitable 'end result' of enough fishers being present or being in the right place at the right time.

The riverbank beauty & ambiance, the hypnotic flow of the stream, the hospitality of the ghillie and just enjoying 'the escape' from normal stressful work duties has always been the primary attraction of Scottish salmon fishing where a salmon was always regarded as a bonus.

For Scottish salmon fishing skill development consider a personally guided instructional day with one of Scotland's finest professional River Dee salmon fishing guides.

Beat Directions

From Aberdeen; As you enter Banchory on the A93 (from the direction of Aberdeen) turn left at the first main set of traffic lights in Banchory onto Dee Street (B974). Follow the road which will take you across the River Dee Bridge. Follow this road as it bends to the left on the other side of the river. As the road straightens the left hand turn into the entrance of the Banchory Beat is approx 300 yards on your left hand side (just as the road starts to bend to the right). Turn left in through the entrance signposted 'Riverstone House' and follow the track down to the river where the fishing hut and car park are located.
